After studying law and journalism, Jean-Xavier de Lestrade turned to directing television documentaries and magazines that analyze the mechanisms at work in society. He won an Oscar for Un coupable idéal. He is also known for the American documentary series The Staircase, based on the Michael Peterson case. He has written and directed several award-winning series, including 3 x Manon, Jeux d'influence and recently Laëtitia, which was presented at the Sundance Film Festival. He is also President of SACD.
