John August worked on the screenplays for Aladdin (live-action version), Go, The Funeral Party, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the two parts of Charlie's Angels. In 2004, he received a BAFTA nomination for the screenplay of Big Fish, which he also adapted into a Broadway musical. In 2006, he was nominated for a Grammy for the lyrics to Wonka's Welcome Song . His Arlo Finch series of children's novels is published in 13 languages; the third volume of the trilogy, The Kingdom of Shadows, was released in February 2020. He hosts the weekly Scriptnotes podcast with Craig Mazin, and runs the company behind the highly successful Highland 2 and Weekend Read screenwriting apps. He is a member of the Academy, as well as the board of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) West.
