Bert Van Dael holds a master's degree in screenwriting from Sint-Lukas Brussels, and a master's degree in philosophy from KULeuven. In 2012, he co-wrote Clan, a series created by Malin-Sarah Gozin and directed by Kaat Beels and Nathalie Basteyns. He went on to write several award-winning films alongside Sanne Nuyens: Dura Lex by Anke Blondé, Skunk and Buddy by Raf and Jan Roosens. In 2017, he co-created and directed the writing of the Beau Séjour series with Sanne Nuyens, Kaat Beels and Nathalie Basteyns. Beau Séjour won the Audience Award at Séries Mania in Paris and was the first Flemish series broadcast on ARTE France. The series is available on Netflix under the title Hotel Beau Séjour. In 2019, he and Sanne Nuyens won the best screenplay award at the Canneseries festival for their new series The Twelve. The Twelve was the most-watched series of the year in Belgium and will be available worldwide on Netflix at the end of 2020.
