Following the flamboyant success of Bodyguard and the latest seasons of Line of Duty, British writer and showrunner Jed Mercurio has added a new string to his bow by founding his own production label, HTM Television, backed by Hat Trick Productions. His primary aim: to support emerging creators and give them the means to assert their artistic vision throughout the development of their series.
This exchange with producer Odile McDonald is an opportunity for Jed to share his vision of transmission, to tell how he spots promising projects and authors and creates the ideal conditions for strong works to emerge. In particular, he looks back at the genesis of HTM Television's first two productions: Bloodlands, Chris Brandon's creation about a detective determined to put an end to eternal cycles of revenge, to be unveiled this autumn on the BBC; and Trigger Point, a breathless thriller following bomb disposal teams in London, created by Daniel Brierley.
